Cinequest Festival Recap

San Jose was chilly but the reception we got at Cinequest 18 couldn’t have been warmer. Our film, No Connection, showed twice (that’s why there are two dates in the box. The festival itself went on for two weeks). Amy and I only saw the first screening as we had to high-tail it back to LA before the second one. The first screening had about 80 people in the theater and they obviously enjoyed the film which was shown first out of a total of seven shorts. The audience laughed and clapped at the end and I felt gratified (and relieved to be honest). No Connection is such an off-beat film that I wasn’t sure how it would be received. The real honor though came the next day while Amy and I were headed off to one of the other venues to see a documentary. The fellow who had lead the Q and A after the first screening saw me and said, “Oh, I’m glad we bumped into you. Art wanted to meet you.” Well, it turned our Art was the guy who chose No Connection for the festival and he gushed about it, saying he had seen it twice and then a couple more times. He said it was just the kind of film Cinequest was looking for – quirky and original. He asked me several questions about the film and I was floating on air! I was so pleased that someone “got” it. A few days after we had left San Jose, I got a call to see if I would be available the following Saturday for a press opportunity but alas, we had to be in Phoenix. But still I couldn’t have asked for a better festival experience (even though I did forget my camera).
